Prior to assuming the above position, Marco was:

CEO and General Manager of Banca Monte dei Paschi from September 2016 until May 2020. He previously covered different executive roles within the group also as Deputy General Manager from the end of 2003 to January 2010.

Vice Chairman Europe, Middle East and Africa and CEO Italy of Bank of America Merrill Lynch- October 2012 until September 2016

General Manager and Deputy CEO Intesa San Paolo Group - March 2010 until July  2012.

CEO and General Manager of JPMorgan Italy and member of JPMorgan Europe executive committee 1994-2002.

Previous working experience from 1984 onward with KPMG, Samuel Montagu Ltd and UBS Ltd in different European locations.

A graduate cum laude in Economics and Business @ the Luiss University of Rome (1984), he also qualified as Chartered Accountant (1986). He served as Director and Member of the Executive Committee of ABI (the Italian Banking Association) and member of the Board of Directors of Fondo Infrastrutture Italiano (F2i), Banca IMI SpA, Beni Stabili SpA, MTS SpA and Clessidra Private Equity Fund.

Founding Partner and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of Fondazione Don Gino Rigoldi – Onlus.

Professor adjunct of Economics & Finance and Business & Management @ Luiss University - Rome, he also became member of the Board of Directors in October 2019.
